TesseracT - "War of Being"
This is how you drum up excitement for a new album. TesseracT's "War of Being" is nothing less than a banquet of progressive metal and djent brilliance. The epic 11-minute track is dense enough to split atoms and introspective enough to make any listener question their own ego. TesseracT are those guys.
Svalbard - "Faking It"
Svalbard's "Faking It" is one of those immediately addictive songs, opening with a dramatic swell into massive, roiling riffery. It's a post-hardcore banger with some of the tightest drumming you'll ever hear and an almost melodeath style production behind it. Everything about this song is BIG — use your best speakers when blasting it.
With Honor - "Rank & File"
It's never a bad day for a new hardcore anthem. In the unmistakable straight-edge style, With Honor deliver an empowering cut buzzing and bouncing with energy on "Rank & File," featuring killer guest vocals from Kat Lanzillo of the soon-to-break-up FAIM. The song represents the very best of Connecticut punk and hardcore, speaking to the plight of the working man and woman and refusing to be churned through the labor machine.
Mutoid Man - "Demons"
Mutoid Man are always guaranteed to deliver the unexpected. With their new punk-metal banger "Demons," the three-piece — comprising members of Cave In, Converge and High on Fire — gets sleazy and infectious. The band's wild, stop-start style never allows you to get too comfortable while listening, but that's where the gold lays for Mutoid Man. Play this one loud for the voices in your head.
Evile - "When Mortal Coils Shed"
One of modern thrash's most underrated and consistent bands, Evile have always delivered unique music while paying tribute to past legends. "When Mortal Coils Shed" is essentially Evile's version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters." The unmistakable guitar tone, slow-boiling drum work and heartfelt-yet-gruff vocal style is all Black Album Metallica, but it's far from a rip-off.
Gunship - "Monster in Paradise"
The Eighties synth revival isn't over yet, people. Even if you're sick of hearing the Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" blaring out of Urban Outfitters, you may find yourself getting down with Gunship's "Monster in Paradise." Featuring Wargasm frontwoman Milkie Way, Lost Boys saxophonist Tim Cappello and OG Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo(!), "Monster in Paradise" is all good vibes, all the time. Just listen to that sax solo and get your serotonin kick for the day.
