Earlier this year, Dethklok drummer Gene Hoglan hinted that the pseudo-fictional Metalocalypse band was working on their first album in 10 years and planning a bit of touring in support of its eventual release. We still haven't heard anything on the new music front, but the death-metal brutalists are returning to the stage for the first time in three years later this summer.
As announced today (May 18th), Dethklok will be playing at the Adult Swim Fest Block Party the weekend of August 5th-7th in Philadelphia. Most of the other acts on the bill are rappers like Run the Jewels and Tierra Whack or indie bands like Hop Along and Spirit of the Beehive, but Dethklok are one of the main headliners and their set will inevitably fucking rule. It's the firs time they'll take the stage since the last time they played Adult Swim Fest in late 2019.
The news of Dethklok's return comes after last year's announcement that a brand new Metalocalypse movie is in the works. Again, no new news on that front, but Dethklok are writing and getting ready to play shows. That's a promising sign that the wheels are turning.
