Candlemass' next album is titled The Door to Doom, which is the best possible double entendre for both dread and what you will come into contact with upon listening. To really make things perfect, the band tapped none other than Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi to come in for a guest spot on new track "Astorolus – The Great Octopus" to push things over the edge.
The song kicks off with a thick layer of doom that takes its sweet time to build in true Sabbathian fashion. As the song progresses and gets heavier, Iommi comes through on the track's midpoint to rip out a truly dazzling solo that coasts over the otherworldly heaviness the rest of the band puts forth. It's a mean as fuck solo, and at 70 years old Tony Iommi can still shred better than any new jack axeman.
The Door to Doom comes out February 22.
