Mastodon's 'Cold Dark Place': Go Inside the Stunning Cover Art

A few months ago, Revolver traveled to the U.K. to visit artist Richey Beckett at his home and get the inside story behind his cover art for Mastodon's new EP, Cold Dark Place. As Beckett explains, the chilling, forest-set artwork stems from a concept originally imagined by the band's guitarist Brent Hinds. "He had this incredible vision — very specific — of this character who represented an older version of himself, being inside this cold, dark woodland," Beckett says, going on to frame the piece in terms of his own sources of inspiration, which include mythology, folklore and the work of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
