In 2005, thrash pioneers Megadeth enlisted prog-metal leaders Dream Theater — alongside Fear Factory, Symphony X, and more — to join them on the ambitious Gigantour, an Ozzfest-style package tour devised by Dave Mustaine. When the journey stopped in Grand Prairie, Texas, Dream Theater decided to pay tribute to one of the state's recently-fallen heroes, Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, by playing a star-studded cover of "Cemetery Gates."
During their set, Dream Theater enlisted Mustaine, (now former) Fear Factory singer Burton C. Bell and Symphony X's Russell Allen to join them onstage for a full-scale rendition of the epic power ballad from Pantera's 1990 landmark, Cowboys From Hell.
To commemorate the special occasion, Dream Theater had a video crew professionally record the ambitious cover, and now it lives on the internet so fans throughout the world can revisit this momentous collaboration between metal stars of all stripes.
