From Faith No More and Mr. Bungle to Dead Cross and Dillinger Escape Plan, Mike Patton is renowned not just for his vocal acrobatics but also for his lunatic live antics. The dude is an unpredictable force of nature onstage.
Take for instance his February 16th, 2013, performance with the alt-metal supergroup Tomahawk, also featuring the Jesus Lizard's Duane Denison, Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn and Helmet's John Stanier. That night, the band played San Francisco's Great American Music Hall and played as their encore a ripping medley of Bad Brains' "Pay to Cum" and "How Low Can a Punk Get."
That would have been rad enough, but Tomahawk did so with Patton rocking a hockey goalie mask and going absolutely bonkers. Dude jams his mic between the bars of the mask and roars his head off, and then he stage-dives multiple times into the shocked crowd. It's brilliantly maniacal, and makes for a great tribute to the Bad Brains, who were arguably the greatest live band ever, at least if you ask Lamb of God's Randy Blythe. Watch the madness unfold above.
