Deicide are kicking off the release of their new full-length ode to brutal sacrilege, Overtures of Blasphemy, with a brand new music video for the their latest single "Defying the Sacred." The bloody horror short follows a tortured witch as she's chased through the woods with torch-bearing church figures before enacting her retribution in the gory final scene, sending the bothersome attackers to their rightful fate.
The slaughtering track sees Deicide return to their extreme sacrilegious metal roots. Thirty years of smearing the name of God has done nothing to ease up Glen Benton and Company's seething hatred for all things holy, and Overtures of Blasphemy continues to impress with its unrelenting death metal ungodliness.
"I originally thought that the older I got the more mellow I'd get," says Benton. "That's not the case. I would say I'm darker now than I ever was. What I've been through over the years has definitely darkened my heart and soul."
Benton cameos in the video as a gleeful onlooker, while the witch causes those around her to bleed from their eyes, pull off their own faces, and more. The terror throughout exemplifies the pure joy Benton gleans from attacking the hallowed.
Overtures of Blasphemy is available now on digital platforms via Century Media. Due to a manufacturing delay, all US physical purchase copies will be available next week on 9/21.
