Metal had a particularly strong presence at this past weekend's series of NFL games. On Sunday, Charlie Benante joined the Seattle Seahawks drumline to play covers of Pantera's "Walk" and Anthrax's "Indians," and on Saturday January 7th, the house band for the Las Vegas Raiders performed a moody, orchestral rendition of Slayer's "South of Heaven."
The 19-piece band only played about 30 seconds of the iconic thrash tune, but its dark, stormy vibe certainly fit the atmosphere of Allegiant Stadium, where the hometown Raiders lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in a blowout 31-13 upset. It may not have been a great day for Raiders fans, but hearing Slayer blasting over the PA is a pretty cool treat for metalheads.
