The latest season of Stranger Things has been jam-packed with metal morsels. One of its main characters is a metalhead high-schooler named Eddie Munson who wears a denim jacket with a Dio backpatch, and during the season finale he battled demons by shredding along to Metallica's "Master of Puppets." The actor who portrayed Munson, Joe Quinn, said that he listened to "a lot of heavy metal" to get into character, but as it turns out, he wasn't the only cast member who cranked dark and heavy tunes in order to prepare for their onscreen role.
Actor Jamie Campbell Bower who portrayed the evil creature, Vecna, went a lot deeper than just Metallica staples to get into the dark and gloomy mindset. In recent interview on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast via Consequence, Bower said that he listened to black-metal bands like Darkthrone and Mayhem and drone acts like Sunn 0))) while preparing for his role.
"When I was prepping for Vecna, to get into Vecna, I would use a lot of bands like Sun 0))), Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone, Mayhem," the actor said in the interview. "A lot of black-metal kind of stuff that I just really latched onto and thought, 'Wow, this is great.' There's also something about the sensitivity in the way black metal is made and their belief system which I really fucking vibe with."
That's pretty fucking cool. Stranger Things is one of the biggest shows in the world and one of its actors turned to stone cold black-metal and drone to nail his part. Hellyeah. Check out the interview below via YouTube.
