Here at Revolver, we're always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it's a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in deathcore, hardcore, metalcore and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ. For your listening pleasure, we've also compiled the songs in an ever-evolving Spotify playlist.
Spiritbox - "Angel Eyes"
Spiritbox have not one but two insanely heavy songs on their new EP, The Fear of Fear. It's no secret that the Canuck alt-metallers know their way around a catchy chorus, but whenever Courtney LaPlante and Co. go into rage-mode like they do on "Angel Eyes," we can't get enough.
Concussive, djenty and slicing, the EP's centerpiece rivals the band's breakout banger, "Holy Roller," in terms of raw, uncompromising aggression.
Dying Wish - "Symptoms of Survival"
Dying Wish are a band who've been able to suavely integrate "ass-beater" choruses into their vicious metalcore screeds. But they don't need a chorus on "Symptoms of Survival."
The opening salvo from their new record of the same name calls back to the savage heaviness of Dying Wish's early EP's, as the band delivers one bone-snapping mosh part after another while Emma Boster screams with all her might. It's a different kind of ass-beater.
Fuming Mouth - "Kill the Disease"
Fuming Mouth's new album, Last Day of Sun, is hugely informed by the horrors vocalist Mark Whelan experienced during his life-altering cancer diagnosis, and "Kill the Disease" is a fucking battle scene put to music.
In it, Whelan howls, "Fight back!/Kill the disease" over stabs of filthy, flesh-tearing death-metal. Whelan's been declared cancer-free since August 2022 (hellyeah!), and by the wartime tone of this song, it sounds like the Fuming Mouth frontman will ensure it never, ever returns. Or else...
No/Más - "Spineless"
Last year, No/Más dropped one of the best grindcore albums in recent memory, the apoplectic Consume / Deny / Repent, but it sounds like the band are already ready to outdo themselves.
New song "Spineless" is a total pain-dealer, oscillating between fiendishly chuggy death-metal grooves and feral blasts of grind madness. The fast parts make us want to run in a circle pit until the floors catch fire from friction, and the mosh sections just make us want to burn shit. Either way, that floor's not looking good.
Darko - "Rampage"
After an incredibly prolific 2022, Darko took 2023 off to recharge, and now they've returned heavy as ever. The duo of ex-Chelsea Grin screamer Tom Barber and drummer Josh Miller (formerly of Emmure and Spite) go utterly ballistic on "Rampage," a digitized deathcore onslaught that lives up to its title in every regard.
Eighteen Visions - "Violence Surrounds"
Eighteen Visions have evolved a lot over the years, morphing from riotous metalcore to swaggering hard-rock and back again. "Violence Surrounds" sounds like a nice mid-way point between all of their varying arcs. Heavy verses, sweltering clean choruses, a moody bridge and a cathartically heavy final breakdown.
