In case you've been offline all day, Taylor Swift was just named Time's Person of the Year, which means the pop mega-star did her first interview since 2020.
Normally, that would have no bearing on what we do over at Revolver HQ, but in this case, Swift used a peculiar turn of phrase to describe her new beau, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She called him "metal as hell."
In the cover story, Swift was describing the origins of her and Kelce's romance, which is the juicy gossip that Swifties have been thirsting for since she and the NFL star started publicly seeing each other a couple months back.
According to Swift, when Kelce revealed on his podcast that he was "butt-hurt" he wasn't able to give her a friendship bracelet at her Eras tour over the summer (which was essentially his way of shooting his shot with the pop star), she thought that was not only adorable, but also "metal as hell."
"This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell," Swift told Time. "We started hanging out right after that.
"So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I'm grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple.
"I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."
So there you have it. Arguably the most popular artist in the history of music used the phrase "metal as hell" to describe... well, something that isn't metal at all. Until Kelce starts listening to Lamb of God or Gojira instead of the Chainsmokers and MGK, he's not passing our litmus test.
As for Taylor, in addition to casually using "metal as hell" as a term of endearment in the Time interview, she also drops references to Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and the Marvel universe, so who knows? Maybe she's secretly actually a heavy-metal nerd.
